A troupe of 50 athletes from Dumfries and Galloway are on their way down to Sheffield this morning where they’ll compete in the Special Olympics summer Games.

A troupe of 50 athletes from Dumfries and Galloway are on their way down to Sheffield this morning where they’ll compete in the Special Olympics summer Games.

The team will compete in many sports from football to Boccia, which is similar to french boules.

It’s the UK’s largest multi-sports event for people with learning disabilities.

Sandra Proudfoot, head of delegation said: « Everyone is just so excited, it’s such a big mile stone for some of the team, to go away from home is huge never mind compete for a medal.
