Illinois student with Down syndrome selected to lead St. Patrick’s Day parade: ‘Everyone seems to be so happy around her’

An Illinois teen with Down syndrome will fulfill a life-long dream after being appointed as queen of the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Victoria Reyes, known as Tori, will represent Lyons Township High School at the march in Countryside next month.

The 17-year-old was selected after her « contagious » happiness inspired a heartfelt nomination letter from best friend Kate Dillon.

« Tori is such a good friend of mine now and she’s really inspired me to be a better person, » freshman Dillon told WGN TV.

« I just said how contagious her happiness was. Everybody seems to be happy around her and I’m so proud to call her my friend. »

The pair became friends to the Best Buddy’s Program, which pairs special needs students with other students.
