Language affects attitudes and attitudes affect actions

To read on US2 Campaign website:

Spread the word to end the word

The R-word: Why does it hurt? The R-word hurts because it is exclusive. It’s offensive. It’s derogatory.

The Spread the Word to End the Word campaign is an on-going initiative from Special Olympics and Best Buddies to eradicate the derogatory use of the word « retard(ed) » from everyday use and promote the inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The campaign asks people to pledge to stop saying the R-word as a starting point toward creating more accepting attitudes and communities for all people. Language affects attitudes and attitudes affect actions.  Click here to view this excellent video created by the Treasure Valley Down Syndrome Association in support of  the campaign. #MyFriendsMyCommunity
